Resin-bound pool decks and hot tub surrounds

Concrete around a pool gets hot in July, slick in October and cracks over time. A textured stone surface gives bare feet grip, lets splash drain straight through and can usually go over the deck you already have.

Made for wet, bare feet

If you've owned a pool, you know the problems with the deck. Here's how a resin-bound surface handles them.

  • Grip when it's wet

The natural stone gives the surface a fine texture, and around pools we add Vuba's Binding Quartz for extra grip under bare feet.

  • Splash drains away

Water soaks through to the base instead of pooling by the steps, so there's no standing slick and no algae in cracks.

  • Comfortable underfoot

Lighter stone blends stay noticeably cooler in the sun than dark concrete or pavers.

  • Rinses clean

A fresh-water rinse now and then keeps pool chemicals and sunscreen from building up on the surface.

  • No joints to lift

No pavers to shift when the pool overflows in a storm, and no grout lines to scrub.

  • Over your existing deck

A sound concrete pool deck can usually be resurfaced in place, without breaking it out around the pool.

How a pool deck resurface goes

  1. Check the deck

On the site visit we look for settling, hollow spots and failing edges, and agree what needs repair.

  2. Prep and protect

We clean and repair the old surface, mask the pool and coping, and prime.

  3. Lay the stone

Resin and stone are mixed on site and trowelled by hand into one seamless surface.

  4. Let it cure

Keep off it until it's cured. We'll give you the times for the blend and the weather on the day.

Pool deck questions

More on the FAQ page, or call (250) 802-6488.

Is it slippery when it's wet?

It grips well when wet. The stone gives the surface a fine, natural texture, and around pools and in other wet spots we add Binding Quartz, Vuba's anti-slip additive, for extra grip. Like any outdoor surface, keep shady areas clear of moss and wet leaves.

Do chlorine or salt water damage it?

Pool decks are one of the most common places Vuba Stone goes, and splash drains away instead of sitting on the surface. Vuba doesn't publish specific chlorine or salt-water ratings, so we'll talk through your pool setup on the site visit. Rinsing the deck with fresh water now and then keeps chemicals and sunscreen from building up.

Does it get hot on bare feet?

Less than dark concrete or pavers. Lighter blends reflect more sun and stay noticeably cooler, which is why we usually suggest them around pools. Like any surface in full July sun, it still warms up.

Can you go over our existing pool deck?

Usually. If the concrete deck is sound, we repair it, mask the pool and coping, prime and lay the new surface over it. We check for hollow spots and settling on the site visit.

Does it need sealing?

Not every year. Vuba's care guide is simple: sweep it, pressure wash it once or twice a year, and give it a light reseal with a UV-stable sealer every five to ten years. There's no re-sanding, re-levelling or yearly seal-coating like pavers and asphalt need.
