Resin-bound driveways and patios in the Comox Valley

Real winters, hard freeze-thaw and meltwater off Mount Washington. The Comox Valley is tougher on outdoor surfaces than the south island, which is exactly where a flexible, permeable surface makes sense.

Why freeze-thaw matters here

More cycles, more cracking. Courtenay and Cumberland see far more freeze-thaw cycles than Victoria. Each one pushes water into concrete, freezes it and opens the cracks a little wider. It's why pavers heave on Comox Valley driveways years sooner than they do in Saanich.

A surface that gives a little. The resin in a resin-bound surface flexes with temperature instead of fighting it. And because water drains through, it doesn't sit on the surface long enough to soak in and freeze.

Runoff. Properties below Mount Washington get a lot of seasonal meltwater. A graded concrete driveway turns into a stream; a permeable surface soaks it up. On long rural driveways we plan drainage along the whole run, not just at the road.

Popular projects in the valley

We work across Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Union Bay, Fanny Bay, Black Creek and Merville.

  • Long rural driveways

Acreages between Courtenay and Cumberland and up through Black Creek and Merville, where runoff is the main problem.

  • Frost-cracked concrete pads

Older Courtenay and Comox neighbourhoods. The slab is mostly intact; the surface is failing.

  • Patios with a view

Around Comox and the harbour. It pours around fire pits, hot tubs and planters in one seamless surface.

Comox Valley questions

Anything else? Call (250) 802-6488.

Will it survive a Comox Valley winter?

Yes. The resin flexes through freeze-thaw instead of cracking, and water drains away rather than freezing on the surface. Clear snow with a plastic shovel or a plastic plow blade, since metal blades can scrape stones loose, and ask us before using de-icers.

When's the best time to install in the valley?

It needs a dry day at 5°C (41°F) or warmer. Late spring to early fall is the main window, and September is often ideal. The schedule fills before the wet season, so book early.

Can you do a long acreage driveway?

Yes. Long driveways are a good fit because permeability deals with runoff along the whole length. We plan drainage for the full run, not just at the road end.

How often are you up in the valley?

Regularly through the install season. We book Comox Valley visits around jobs we already have nearby, so travel doesn't add to your price.
